The pleasure of Birding, the place to do it: Puerto Rico

Our Island is a destination for migratory birds as well as the home for endangered species. Puerto Rico is an ideal location to observe dozens of remarkable birds in their native habitat. Around 350 species inhabit the Island including birds that migrate from North America during winter time.

According to experts the best months for sighting Puerto Rico native species are from January to May. However, there many fascinating birds that always dwell in our Island and make Puerto Rico a place to enjoy bird watching all year round.

We also count with numerous parks for bird watching. In 2005 Mayaguez Zoo opened an impressive $3-million aviary of a light steel mesh structure that permits birds to fly freely interacting with natural environment.

Some of the endemic birds in Puerto Rico are: Pájaro Bobo, Bien-te-veo, Mariquita, San Pedrito, Reinita del Bosque, Zumbador Verde, among other native birds.
